Chronicles the early exploration of the magnificent natural landscape that would become Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, from its initial discovery to development as a tourist destination & preservation as a national monument. Author was a professor of history at Idaho State College & park naturalist, & this book was approved by the National Park Service. Orig. published in 1949 & reprinted in 1956, this is the FIRST PRINTING of the Revised Edition (First, Thus) from 1960, with updated information & profuse illustrations, including a full color frontispiece. In 320 pages with Index & map endpapers, this hardcover has blue cloth-covered boards with a silver design & lettering to front cover & spine. Both Book & DJ are in VG+ condition: book has slight rubbing to top & bottom of both boards & very bumping to heel of spine & corners. Otherwise, completely clean, binding strong & straight, pages very white. Former owner's name & address in pen on ffep.The unclipped DJ shows extremely slight edgewear, the worst being a teeny chip along top edge of front cover. Light soil.
