Green cloth, gilt stamped cover and spine, color frontispiece and three color illus. by H.M. Brett, 373 pages. Corners and spine ends bumped with a little wear, some soil on fore-edges from handling. A book for adults, unlike other Wiggin's books. It is also interesting to this reader that Wiggin introduces serious social issues through the vehicle of a novel. "This story touches on the status of women, poverty, the dark side of patriarchy, suicide, adultery, serial marriages, illegitimate birth, child abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness."
