Text body is clean and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Green cloth, gilt stamped cover and spine, color frontispiece and three color illus. by H.M. Brett, 373 pages. Corners and spine ends bumped with a little wear, some soil on fore-edges from handling. A book for adults, unlike other Wiggin's books. It is also interesting to this reader that Wiggin introduces serious social issues through the vehicle of a novel. "This story touches on the status of women, poverty, the dark side of patriarchy, suicide, adultery, serial marriages, illegitimate birth, child abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness."
