The text is illustrated, including the frontispiece, with coloured illustrations by Pierre Brissaud. 1/4 brown coloured textured leatherette backstrip with gilt titles. 3/4 brown, green and yellow marbled boards. Translated from the original text of 1731 by Helen Waddell. The tale of Manon Lescaut and her lover The Chevalier des Grieux in France and in Louisiana in the 18th century. Of how the Chevalier tries to keep Manon in the style which she would like, lap of luxury, in both Paris and Louisiana with varying results. The seventh, and, final volume of the author's Mémoires et aventures d'un homme de qualité (Memoirs and Adventures of a Man of Quality). This book is an ex-library book and has the faults of same: – library plates to the front pasted-down and half title page; library pocket to the left-hand corner of the free front end page; Dewey number to the top right-hand corner to the verso of the title page and to the top left-hand corner of the rear paste-down; small pocket to the lower left-hand corner of the rear paste-down and remnants of due back page to the top edge of the rear end page. Library stamps and cancellation stamps to the textblock edges, rear rear and front end pages and to the title page. Softening and rubbing of the backstrip edges. Rubbing of all book edges with the corners being bumped and chipped with the underlying board visible. Sunning of the backstrip along with some remnants of library stickers and the top right-hand corner of the backstrip has split a little. Rubbing and some erosion of the marbling of the boards.
