Bound sturdily in publisher's blind-stamped dark-green cloth, sharp and distinct gilt decorations to front cover, being a butterfly and a sword in wreath, gilt lettering to spine rubbed, scuffed a bit at spine head and foot. All edges stained in red. Bookplate inside front flap from Frances Emma Watkins. Flourished penned inscriptions at half-title and opposite from 1863 and 1874 from Lyle Hillis and then again in 1943 from Francis Emma Watkins. A readable and accessible account of the American Civil War penned by the wife of Gen. John Charles Fremont, a fetching war memoir told in a series of letters. An apparent Fourth Impression. 227 [2] pp. Faint penciled notation inside rear flap, again involving Lyle Hillis, this time from 1868, "witnessed" in Madison County, Iowa, September 6, 1868.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
