About This Item

NESBIT, E[dith]. The Story of the Five Rebellious Dolls. Illustrated by E[velyn] Stuart Hardy. London: Ernest Nister [1904]. Oblong 4to, [36]pp. Olive quarter-cloth with glazed color pictorial boards. Pictorial endpapers; 8 color chromolithographs, 8 full-page and numerous smaller b&w illustrations. Spine ends minutely rubbed, slight waffling to rear free endpaper, some light aging to sheets, else a remarkably clean, bright copy in original pictorial dust jacket (1½" closed tear at top of rear panel, slight evidence of cup having been set at top of front panel, a few other small tears and chips along edges).

First edition. Most of Eva's dolls are very well behaved, but these five decide to rebel and run away! A wonderful little tale from the beloved children's fantasy author E. Nesbit. One of her scarcest and least well-known titles, done during the height of her popularity. Incredibly rare in dust jacket!
