About This Item
Chicago: Jansen, McClurg & Company, 1880. Hardcover. 16mo. Brown cloth with gilt spine lettering. 226pp, (14pp ads). Tissue-guarded frontispiece. Good plus. A bit edgeworn, mainly at spine head/tail, with delicate inner hinges expertly, archivally strengthened and thus tight; text block nice, clean and very good. A nice first edition of this popular account of "America's Florence Nightingale," Eliza N. Atherton Aiken (1817-1906), a New York-born Illinoisan who nursed the 6th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War. Quite uncommon.
