Collins, London, 1977. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. 700 g.; (10), 11-257, (1) pages, foreword by author, and index. Red coloured boards with black insert to the backstrip, and within insert gilt titles. Bumping to the backstrip edges and rubbing to the book corners. Dust marks to the top text block edge. Very light age toning of the text. Gift inscription to the free-front end paper. Illustrated dustwrapper with black titles to the front panel and backstrip. On the rear dustwrapper panels are three black-and-white photographs of early Soviet defectors. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and rubbing to the dustwrapper panels. Sunning has also occurred to the dustwrapper panels. A few spots to the verso of the dustwrapper. In this book the author has detailed five instances of defection of Russian officials/military personnel to the West. All the more remarkable is the fact that this is in the years between 1928 to1938. The author spoke to the defectors that were still alive and their stories would not be believed if they are written down as fiction. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
