About This Item

New York, NY: Bantam Books, 1991 Bantam Books, New York. 1991. Softcover/Trade Wraps. 15th Printing by Line Number. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Near Fine; light toning to pages; small bump on top of front wrap; small bump on bottom of rear wrap. Printed card stock wraps. Wraps are not bent or folded; spine is not creased or split; text is secure in binding. 247 pp 8vo. Nearly five million people in the United States alone suffer from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which is classified as an anxiety disorder subtype. Fortunately, as the authors so ably show, this disorder is highly amenable to treatment. Part 1 of the book is devoted to gaining a basic understanding of OCD-what it is, what it is not, who can benefit most from the program, and who should seek the assistance of a mental health professional rather than embarking solo on this arduous journey. In Part 2, the authors focus on cognitive and behavioral techniques they have found to be successful in decreasing the power of obsessions and compulsions of worriers and those with less severe symptoms. Part 3 offers an intensive, 3-week, cognitive-behavioral self-help program designed for those spending more than 2 hours per day ritualizing. Perhaps this excellent volume could best be used as an adjunct to professional treatment or as an educational tool. A clean very presentable copy.
