Boston: Charles Stimpson, Jr., 1843. 542,[1]pp. plus [2],12,[2]pp. (including pastedowns) of advertisements on pink and yellow stock. 12mo. Cloth-backed original printed boards. Boards rubbed and lightly stained. Early ink inscriptions on front board, blank verso of first leaf, and top and bottom edges of text-block. Very good. SPEAR, p.53. Charles Stimpson's Boston directory and city register for 1843, complete with illustrated advertisements. In addition to the lists of residents and streets, the volume provides information on local organizations, city offices, and physicians, surgeons, and nurses. "People of Color" are listed in a separate, eight-page section. On the copyright page, Stimpson notes that 12,006 alterations were made for the 1843 edition, and a total number of 20,930 names included.
