About This Item

London: William Heinemann, 1917. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 8" by 5.5". None . A beautiful later impression of this charming book of verses by Laurence Hope, in a signed Ramage binding. A new impression of 1917, originally published in 1903. Charming book of verses by Violet Nicolson published under pseudonym Laurence Hope, best-selling author in the early twentieth-century. Her poetry is known for her skilful use of imagery and symbols from the poets of the North-West of India and the Sufi poets of Persia, often dealing with unrequited love and loss. Titles included in this anthology are 'To Aziz,' 'Illusion,' 'Sleep,' and 'The Orange Garden' among others. In a charming calf binding signed Ramage, one of the leading London trade binders of the late nineteenth century. Rebound in half calf over cloth covered boards, with five raised bands, titles in gilt to spine, marbled endpapers. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, lightly rubbed to spine and extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
