About This Item
1938. Very good condition. Two amusing cartoons, by a Stanford graduate and WWI veteran, the first a cartoon strip, titled "Life of F. C. Hewitt", showing scenes from Hewitt's life, from his childhood in 1897, to college "he went to Stanford College and there broke all running records" (with an amusing illustration of Hewitt running in cleats in the dark), to marriage, service in WWI, fatherhood and retirement.
"Cape Cod ‘38" is the second original art piece, depicting a trip with Hewitt's friends, with 3 caricatures of them, identified as "Four frigs, Whitson, Greenwood, Heinze, Hewitt". This wonderful illustration features an old Ford loaded with bags called "Betsy", and a variety of vignettes of the activities the men indulged in while on vacation. Signed ‘Foo' Hewitt at the lower left corner. Pen and ink on illustration board 15 x 10".
