About This Item

Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society, Kendal, first edition, 1994. Cloth, 4to, 25 cm,. viii,180 pp, [16] pp of colour plates. From the introduction: "The Anglican Diocese of Carlisle covers a considerable area. Its boundaries are coterminous with those of the administrative county of Cumbria, except for the area of Alston and Nenthead in the north-east, and Firbank and Killington in the south-east. In the preparation of this study the Cathedral and 339 parish churches have been visited; stained glass of the period reviewed having been recorded not only in the Cathedral, but also in 277 of those churches. This large corpus of stained glass, erected over a period of one hundred and fifty years, is what has survived natural wastage, war damage, redundancy and demolition. Medieval glass is outside this field of study. Near Fine in Near Fine dustwrapper.
