About This Item

London: Herbert Jenkins Limited,, 1948. First UK edition, first impression, published simultaneously with the US edition. Wodehouse had originally written the story as a play for the American actor Edward Everett Horton. When that deal fell through, he reworked it as a novel which sets much of the drama in a close approximation of Hever Castle, in Kent. Octavo. Original orange cloth, spine lettered and ruled in black, publisher's device to spine and rear cover in black, front cover lettered in black. With dust jacket. Very light bumping to spine head; minor rubbing and nicking to jacket extremities, unclipped: a near-fine copy in like jacket. McIlvaine A67b.
