[Shaw and Shoemaker, 26555.] This speech was a pivotal moment in Josiah Quincy's (1772-1864) life. An outspoken advocate of military preparedness, Quincy reversed himself in this speech, just prior to the outbreak of the War of 1812, and lost his national political constituancy. After this, he returned to Massachusetts and eventua became the mayor of Boston. Some browning to paper.
