About This Item

[Cheloniidae Press], 1987. Manuscript Version. Near Fine binding. Signed. Quarto; full morocco binding with letterpress text and with original watercolor drawings and calligraphy for each of the 26 birds represented; printed on Bartram Green mould-made paper (note this is the last year that the Green family's Hayle Mill produced their fine papers); binding by Dan Kelm stamped in gilt and in blind to the upper board with raised bands; in a linen-covered clamshell box with paper label to the spine; the box has scattered foxing at the spine; there is some darkening to the lining paper from the binder's glue; in the book itself, the pastedowns at the turn-in have some similar discoloration.~~From the colophon; the Manuscript Version of A Fowl Alphabet follows the 1986 Cheloniidae Press edition of the same title. This is a "one-off" by Alan Robinson; there were five made the previous year; this one is a larger size and was made for a particular collector of Cheloniidae Press books (it is a small quarto, measuring approximately 10 1/4" x 8"); with.original watercolor drawings by Alan James Robinson and lettering by Suzaane Moore are on vintage handmade paper; bookbinder Daniel E. Kelm completed the collaboration. With the signatures of the three collaborators.~~Mr. Robinson's handcolored drawings are stunning, and complemented beautifully by Ms. Moore's calligraphy.~~Alan James Robinson considers this is to be a unique copy.~~. Near Fine binding.
