About This Item

London England: Oxford University Press, 1923. Paperback. Previous owners name sticker to inside cover. Wear to edges. Repair to spine. The words at the head of this article will sufficiently indicate its subject: but it may be premised that the difficulty it deals with has, historically and practically, two different aspects, a lesser and a greater. First, the names England and English, the proper terms that differentiate the southern part of the island and its inhabitants from the northern Scorch and western Welsh parts and their inhabitants, have come to be used for the whole island and all the inhabitants thereof - thereby causing offence to those who wish to maintain their distinctive ractial titles unobscured; England being thus like the name of the found or predominant partner in a firm, which may hod on to his name even after his decease. Secondly, the more insistent and wider aspect of the same difficulty, which involved the sections of the British Commonwealth or Empire and its members outside the United Kingdom - the Dominions, Dependencies, &c., and also all English-speaking peoples wheresoever. 25 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Academic Literature.). 1st Paperback Edition. Soft Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Paperback.
