About This Item
Charles Morgan was a successful playwright and novelist of the 1930s. As was fashionable he wrote on the Continent, including this novel. It deals with the purpose of life, relationships, character and Christian theology. It could be a mediation on Thomas Hardy's relationships, and even has a character called "Mr Hardy". Morgan's wife was a devout Christian of the "mystical" persuasion.
