Two complete yearly runs of "Machkal", a village newspaper of the Soviet period, published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Armenia from 1922 to 1931. The frequency varied from daily, to every two days, every three days, and finally as a weekly. Chief editor was Yeghia Chubar, along with M. Cholakhyan, Hovhannes Bannahyan, G. Ghazaryan, is. Chopuryan, A. Hakhumyan, and H.Hovhannisyan.

The journal printed government decrees, decisions, and instructions from the People's Commissars. It illustrated the work of the Communist Party in rural communities, engaged in the elimination of illiteracy, the insemination of the Soviet way of life in rural communities, and the distribution of other propaganda materials. Within the limits of Soviet ideology, it also reported information about the daily life of other USSR republics and international political events. Richly illustrated with political caricatures, drawings, and from photographs. The articles range across such topics as the finances of Armenian peasants, barn construction, the raising of livestock, Thomas Edison, Agricultural Cooperatives in Armenia. A special edition printed in red ink is dedicated to the International Workers' Day on May 1 and contains an article on the history of Matchkal.

Editor Yeghia Chubar was an Armenian journalist, screenwriter, public speaker, literary and public figure, and member of the Union of Writers of the USSR since 1934. Member of the CPSU since 1918. He was one of the first screenwriters in Armenia.
