Presentation inscription from the author on front free endpaper, "For Major J. Ogden Murray with the compliments of Walter Neale, July 3, 1911." Murray was the author of The Immortal Six Hundred. "An amazingly lengthy oration dedicated to supporting the premises under which the Confederacy fought. Neale decries the 'War of Reconstruction' as 'the most horrible of all modern wars.' He speaks of how the North is stealing from 'we of the south' and concludes with the challenge: 'take up the arms that you laid down at Appomattox, that you fight without ceasing, until southerners again enjoy the rights so long denied to them. You and your children must not die slaves.'" Krick 342.
