About This Item
Fort Worth, Texas: The Southern Conservative, 1957. Three issues of this right wing newspaper published in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1950-1961 by Mrs. Ida Darden (1886-1980). Darden had previously been involved in a number of conservative organizations in Texas, including as publicity director for the Texas Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage. The Southern Conservative, which was financed by the extremist billionaire, George W. Armstrong, was primarily anti-Communist and anti-internationalist in orientation, although Darden's segregationist outlooks is evident as well. Issues included: Vol. 4, Nos. 1, 3; Vol. 8, No. 2.
Tabloid format printed in black on newsprint, each issue 8 p. Some toning and light wear, else all issues Near Fine. See the biographical entry for Darden by George N. Green in the Texas State Historical Association's Handbook of Texas.
