About This Item
Edinburgh and London: Blackwood & Sons, 1867. Hardcover. Very good condition. Large dissected map on linen, with 2 titles South America (Northern Section) and South America (Southern Section). Showing South Georgia island, the Falkland Islands, and an inset of Galapagos Isles at the left side.
With printed paper label laid down at the bottom margin, "Mounted by Letts, Son, Co., London". The map is not dated; a printed reference on the west coast (Chile), notes that "the boundaries between Argentine confed. and neighboring states are not yet (1867) exactly determined, except with Brazil".
Previous owner name in ink at upper left corner, "F. T. Barry". Barry was an MP and member of the Royal Geographical Society, who conducted archeological digs in Scotland.
Large map 6 panels wide by 5 deep; 25 1/4 x 36 1/2". Boundaries are hand colored; hydrography printed in blue. Folds to 5 x 7 3/4" in green gilt cloth boards. Gilt stamped Letts Sons & Co, 8 Royal Exchange logo at front board. Not found in World Cat. David Rumsey Historical Map Collection, List No: 0373.056. Very good condition, the map bright and clean; the green cloth cover very slightly rubbed at base of spine.
