About This Item
Double page engraved map, 24" x 20", hand colored in outline, plain title cartouche. Somewhat browned, a little minor staining in top margin, wide margins one inch chip in right margin that is repaired, map may have been repaired or rebacked, but not obtrusive, normal aging; still a nice impression. Thomas Kitchin (1718-1784) was a highly respected English cartographer who is probably best known for his county maps. He was also an author, and was hydrographer to the king. This is a detailed map of the continent of South America, and shows a large section as Amazonia. The map also shows the possessions of the European powers. Van De Gohm p. 114.
