About This Item

Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher, 1905. Paperback. First Edition, Limited to 600 copies. 5 x 6.5in. 90pp. Publisher's boards with printed attached wraps. Portrait frontispiece. VERY GOOD. Shows light toning of the wrap, the spine with some very small instances of loss, the bottom edge shows some chipping and loss to the wraps which were printed several millimeters too long, otherwise the binding is strong and tight, the text is clean and unmarked, and the boards remain bright and distinct. As pictured.

Synopsis

This selection of critical writings reveals a different side of the great writer-the deep and serious reader of literature and philosophy, and the eloquent and original thinker about society and art. This illuminating collection includes "The Portrait of Mr. W. H.," "In Defense of Dorian Gray," reviews, and the writings from Intentions (1891), including "The Decay of Lying," "Pen, Pencil, Poison," and "The Critic as Artist."
