About This Item
Boston and New York: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1925. FIRST AMERICAN EDITION. Cloth-backed patterned boards; an excellent, uncut copy. First American edition, released in the same year as the first (English) printing. Limited edition of 750 copies. The present work was a culmination of years of poetic writing. The author's sonnets were all written between the ages of 17, when he was a teacher in the Australian Bush, to the age of 25 when a medical student. The Spanish songs were inspired by Ellis' first trip to Spain, where he would write down into English any of the local folk songs. Titles include Isolation; Love's Martyrdom; Madonna and Lost Kisses.
