Song of the Redwood Tree and Prayer of Columbus, New York: Harper's New Monthly Magazine, December 1873-May 1874. Quarto, six issues of the monthly magazine bound in one volume, pp. viii, 912, brown and black morocco with five raised bands and gilt lettering on spine, contains first printings of Walt Whitman's "Song of the Redwood-Tree" and "Prayer of Columbus," each on two pages, Redwood Tree appearing the the February issue, Columbus in March. See Myerson E-2533. Condition of this book: Boards worn at extremities with some loss of morocco at corners. Leaves clean and tight, a very sound binding. Size: Quarto. Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
