About This Item

CA Book Publishing, Hong Kong, 2021 Book. New. Hardcover. English and Chinese text.; Hardcover (with dust jacket).; 22 x 25 cm.; 0.9 Kg.; 172 pages with 176 colour plates; New. May show signs of shelf wear.; Song Dynasty Ceramics highlights over 126 objects from the V&A's magnificent collection to discuss China's great age of ceramic production (960-1279). This long-awaited survey is illustrated with many of the very finest examples of Song ware in the Western world. The V&A's collection of Song Dynasty ceramics ranges from rare and precious items to many interesting study pieces. Rose Kerr has traveled to China annually and has brought together in this book the fruits of her research, much of it now published in the West for the first time. She uses it to provide context for the remarkable pieces illustrated here, and to interpret the subjects for audiences in both English and Chinese. Rose Kerr is an English art historian specializing in Chinese art, especially Chinese ceramics. She is the author of over 25 books on Chinese art. This is the second and augmented edition of her book Song Dynasty Ceramics which was first published by the Victoria and Albert Museum in 2004. She graduated in Chinese studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and was one of a handful of British students to live and study in China during the last year of the Cultural Revolution in 1975-1976. She was the Keeper of the Far Eastern Department at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London until 2003. In 2015, she was made an honorary citizen of Jingdezhen, China, the historic centre of Chinese porcelain production, in recognition of her academic research on Jingdezhen ceramics, and her promotion of cultural exchange between the United Kingdom and China. She is a Trustee of the Percival David Foundation of Chinese Art; and Museum Expert Advisor for the Hong Kong Government. She is a former president of the Oriental Ceramic Society of London..
