About This Item

Dallas, Texas: BenBella Books, 2017. CG2 - A first edition (complete numberline) hardcover book SIGNED by Lesley Visser on the title page in very good condition in very good dust jacket that is mylar protected. Dust jacket has label on the front, wrinkling, chipping and crease on the edges and corners, a few scattered light smudges on the opposite side of the dust jacket, light discoloration and shelf wear. Book has some bumped corners and dent, wrinkling on the edges of the spine and gutter, small patch dent/scuffed on the upper right side page edges, light tanning and shelf wear. Lesley Visser is living proof that, no matter where you start, if you are motivated and passionate, your dreams can come true. When Lesley was 11, she told her mother that she wanted to be a sportswriter. The job didn't exist for women in 1964, but her mother replied, "Great! Sometimes you have to cross when it says, 'Don't walk.'" That answer changed Lesley's life. Lesley went on to cover sports for more than 40 years, pioneering women's presence in men's professional sports. She's the first and only woman to be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame and to present the Vince Lombardi Trophy at the Super Bowl. And she's the only sportscaster in history to have worked on the network broadcasts of the Final Four, Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, Triple Crown, Olympics, US Open, and the World Figure Skating Championship. In Sometimes You Have to Cross When It Says 'Don't Walk,' Lesley shares her historic journey. For sports fans who grew up with Lesley, her memoir reads like a walk down memory lane, full of stories involving familiar faces like John Madden, Jerry Jones, Bill Belichick, and Joe Torre, to name a few. No matter your background, Lesley's words will inspire to fulfill your dreams. 8.5"x5.75", 246 pages. Satisfaction Guaranteed. Lesley Visser (Lesley Candace Visser) is an American sportscaster, television and radio personality, and sportswriter. Visser is the first female NFL analyst on TV, and the only sportscaster in history who has worked on Final Four, NBA Finals, World Series, Triple Crown, Monday Night Football, the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Figure Skating Championships and the U.S. Open network broadcasts. Visser, who was voted the No. 1 Female Sportscaster of all time in a poll taken by the American Sportscasters Association, was elected to the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association's Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2009, Visser became the first woman to be an analyst for an NFL game on TV. She is currently a reporter for CBS Sports and News, writes for CBSSports and is also part of WFTL 640 Fox Sports' morning drive in South Florida, as well as one of the hosts of a CBS Sports Network weekly television show, We Need to Talk. Visser was the first woman to be recognized by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as the 2006 recipient of the Pete Rozelle Radio-Television Award which recognizes long-time exceptional contributions to radio and television in professional football. Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman said about Visser in his 2006 induction speech, "[She] brought respect and professionalism to the field of journalism for her work in print and broadcasting. It makes me proud to be in [her] company today." A pioneer among women sports journalists, Visser re-joined CBS Sports in August 2000 after a six-year hiatus. She was formerly the sideline reporter for Monday Night Football among other assignments she had at ESPN and ABC Sports, such as the World Series, the Triple Crown and the World Figure Skating Championship. She serves as correspondent for the network's NFL and college basketball programming.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
