Sherman's drawings were adapted from sketches by Charlotte Durante, Art Teacher, Cleveland Board of Education. Inscribed to the author's grandchildren and signed on fep. From jacket: "It tells the story of a young man who is the son of a former slave. It tells about life in the rural South. It tells about a young boy going out to seek his fortune, alone in the world." Penciled notation and price on fep. Wrinkle on inside on back cover.
