Diaz, David. 1st (A) ptg., 4to picture book, pictorial laminated boards, about riots, cats and getting along, illustrated in color throughout by David Diaz who signed it lavishly in felt pen with a full page drawing on the title spread. Caldecott Medal winner for 1995. Fine in apparent fine, unclipped dj (nearly invisible closed tear to top front panel), no previous owner's marks or medal sticker. Signed by Diaz with drawing.
Synopsis
Smoky Night is a 1994 children's book by Eve Bunting. It tells the story of a Los Angeles riot and its aftermath: two people who previously disliked each other working together to find their cats. In the end, the cats teach their masters how to get along. David Diaz's acrylic, collage-like illustrating of the tale earned the book the 1995 Caldecott Medal.
