About This Item

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1947. Hint of edge and corner wear, lightly scuffed, corners are very gently rubbed, no dj (dj is included with the book; it has been trimmed and the flaps have been cut off and trimmed) , signed by the former owner on the first page, newspaper clipping about Capa's death attached with tape to the half-title page as well as some tape on the inner front cover and first pages, overall a very clean, collectible, signed first edition! Very very rare signed copy, extemely scarce and hard to find! 243 very fine, unmarked and uncreased extremely collectible pages! Inscribed by the author on the first page: "'If your pictures are no good you're not close enough' Bob Capa". Orange cloth with black lettering on the spine. "Slightly Out of Focus is a contradiction in terms, being the natural climax of a special kind of publishing achievement at the same time that it is a completely different sort of book. With it Henry Holt and Company will have published the three top reporters of World War II; Ernie Pyle, who wrote the war, Bill Mauldin, who drew it, and now Bob Capa, who photographed it and wrote about it too. This is not a book of photographs with captions. These are the hundreds of pictures Bob Capa took throughout the fighting in the ETO. They have been made into chapters and they alternate with the frank, airy, true story of a fabulous young man, Bob Capa, whose romance with a girl called Pinky kept getting involved with his trips to the fighting fronts.". Inscribed By the Author. First Edition. Orange Cloth. Very Good+/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Hardcover.

Synopsis

Robert Capa was born in Budapest in 1913. At twenty-two he traveled to Spain to photograph the Spanish Civil War and soon established a reputation as one of the greatest war photojournalists in history. On May 25, 1954, in French Indochina, Capa was the first American photographer to die in what would become the Vietnam War. Cornell Capa is Robert Capa's younger brother. A distinguished photojournalist, he founded the International Center of Photography in New York City in 1974.
