Dark brown coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper with red and white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Black-and-white photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. In the late 50s Alger Hiss was sent to prison for five years for spying against America, as, per evidence given to the court by Whittaker Chambers. He has always maintained his innocence. In this book the author found upon investigation "... the espionage angle had been completely disregarded by the House Committee and by both Prosecution and both Defence in the two Hiss trials. <snip> 'I must make it clear,' he says, 'that while I am personally convinced of Hiss's innocence, I cannot prove my case. On the other hand, I can put forward a thoroughly logical and convincing theory.' " -- from the front and rear panel blurbs. Age toning of the text block edges and pages.
