In original dust jacket, octavo size, 228 pp. The classic fairy tales in this collection have been told and retold countless times, to the delight of children and adults alike; here, Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (1863-1944) offers his own rendition of the stories. Quiller-Couch, known for his literary criticism and his anthology of poetry "The Oxford Book of English Verse", faithfully translates Perrault's French text, in an entertaining and accessible edition of these fairy tales.

Accompanying the text are stunning illustrations by renowned French-British artist Edmund Dulac (1882-1953), who brings to life the popular stories such as "The Sleeping Beauty", "Cinderella", and "Bluebeard" with his delicate sense of detail and colour.

In the original brown paper dust jacket with illustration and lettering, matching the front board of the book, in dark brown on the front panel, brown lettering and illustration on the spine, publisher's device in dark brown on the rear panel, a list of other books by the publisher on the front and rear flaps; the dust jacket is unclipped with the original price of the book included in the list of books on the front flap.

___CONDITION: Volume is near fine, with clean boards, a strong, square text block with solid hinges, the interior is clean and bright, and entirely free of prior owner markings; some rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and to the corners, corners are gently bumped, and there is very slight cracking to the gutter of pages 192 and 193, and pages 160 and 161. The dust jacket is very good, unclipped, clean overall but for a few stray marks to the rear panel and to the interior of the spine, overall edge wear, some chipping to the head and tail of the spine and to the tops and bottoms of the folds, rubbing to the joints and spine, with a very slight loss of text at the head and tail.
