About This Item
New York, NY, U.S.A.: W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, 1990. Trade Paperback. Very Good. 6" x 9. Nichols, John - Photographs. Unpaginated. Very clean, tight, sollid book with no marks or stamps. Alternating text and graphics with a postcard size color photograph opposite each text page. Probably unread but has some minor cover edge wear. Combines NIchols's spectacular portraits of his largely unspoiled homeland of northern New Mexico with his personal reflactions on the important environmental crises of our day. The result is a unique and hard-driving essay, full of concern, outrage, and love. The ultimate message of this passionate and well-informed manifestois that we can save ourselves, and whilewaging the struggle we can find great joy and fulfillment in forging a better world. His photographs have evolved over the last 20 years from snapshots to statements of environmental conscience and commitment. Nichol's says each photograph is a voice raised in protest, as well as a hosanna for the planet. There is an urgency to even the most peaceful and bucolic landscape impossible to deny. NIchols is the author of the New Mexico trilogy The Milagro Beanfield War, The Magic Journey, and The Nirvana Blues as well other books set in his home state. .
