Collins. London. 1938. FIRST EDITION. 4to.(11.8 x 9.6 inches). Beautifully illustrated with 12 full colour plates, each mounted onto thick brown paper and each with a printed tissue paper guard. The plates show all the major characters in fully finished state including The Queen, The Witch, Snow White and, of course, the seven Dwarves- Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sneezy, Sleepy & Dopey. All other pages are illustrated with reproductions of the artists pencil sketches showing the development of the various characters, with notes beside the drawings. Decorative endpapers showing sketches of classic Disney style Rabbits, Birds and Deer, presumably Bambi was in the mind of the artists at this stage. Surprisingly, no American edition of this book was published. Original beige coarse grain cloth with black lettering to the front panel. Aside from some light marks to the outer edge of the cloth boards and endpapers this is a very good, bright copy in the original colour illustrated, price clipped dustwrapper showing Snow white and the Seven Dwarves on the front and two Fawns on the rear panel. Closed tears to the top and bottom of the dustwrapper spine have been strengthened to the rear of the paper with archive tape but overall a very good example of this fantastic book.

A fine and spotless copy of the book in publishers dark green cloth binding with gilt illustrations and lettering to the front board and spine. In the rare original illustrated dustwrapper, printed in red and green on beige paper. The red ink on the spine is faded and there are a couple of very small chips but overall this is a very smart example of the wrapper on a truly fine book. This first American edition uses sheets from the English edition, prnited by Ballantyne and Company in London. An uncommon survivor in such lovely condition.

Hemingway's children's short story, a loose parody of Ferdinand the Bull, was originally published in Holiday magazine in 1951. This is the first printing with these illustrations. A fine copy in publishers laminated boards with full colour illustration to the front board. Colour illustrated endpapers. Etching image measures 3.9 x 3 inches on a sheet of untrimmed hand made paper measuring 9.5 x 7.5 inches, and has a loose tissue guard to protect it. The book is housed in a plain brown paper covered slip case.

Compartments lettered and ruled in gilt. Navy blue cloth on boards. All edges Marbled. Blue marbled endpapers. School prize plate from Charterhouse on the front pastedown endpaper, dated 1932, signed by Frank Fletcher, the headmaster and presented to G. C. Riall. School arms stamped in gilt to the front board. The spine fo the book is rubbed and darkened but still an attractive copy of the lovely book.
