About This Item
Chicago: The Fountain Press, 1949 This Is A Very Attractive Book, Published By The Fountain Press Of Chicago, With The Added Notation On The Copyright Page "Illustrations And Special Contents Copyright Mcmxlix By Book Production Industries Inc., Chicago. The Actual Illustrations Are Credited To James G. Teason, So Which Parts Are To Be Attributed To Whom Is Not Entirely Clear, But Certainly They Must Have Been Referring To The Decorative Endpapers Which Are Midnight Purple Blue With A White Lady/Muse Standing On A Book And Surrounded By Stars And Mountains, A Plant (?) And From Above Her Head Springs Forth The Fountain, Like A Weeping Willow In Shape. On The Facing Page Is A Thomas Carlyle Quotation Glorifying Books. The Boards Are Bound In Strawberry Red Buckram With Navy Panels On The Front Board And The Spine, And Gold Lettering On And Around Those, With A Gold Fountain Motif At The Bottom Of The Spine. The Gold Is Faded A Bit, But Still This Is A Very Pretty Book In Very Nice Condition, Square And Sturdy, Clean And Bright, With Just A Very Light Touch To The Corners And No Real Wear To The Edges. The Pages Are Lightly Age Toned. Very Clean Interior With No Writing, Stickers, Bookplates, Stamps, Creases Or Marks. Contains Twelve Original B/W Illustrations By James G. Teason, And Thirty-Four Selections By Irving, Including, Of Course, The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow And Such Pieces As "Rural Funerals" And "The Spectre Bridegroom: A Traveller's Tale."
