About This Item
Rhode Island : Maxwell Mays , 1960. First Edition. Card. Very good. Silkscreen or serigraph prints, averaging 10 x 7 with art 7 x 5, signed and titled: Dunlieth, Hopkins Hollow, Welcome, Sunday, Afternoon Walk, District School.
Born in Rhode Island and a product of the Rhode Island School of Design, Maxwell Mays began his painting career seriously when he was stationed in Recife, Brazil during World War II. Returning to peacetime, not having set foot in New England in five years he saw the once familiar scene in a new light and painted enthusiastically. Eighteen pictures made up his first show at Ferargil Gallery in New York City. Maxwell Mays lives and paints in a 1737 Rhode Island farmhouse.
