About This Item
Sidcot, Winscombe, Somerset: Anthony Baker at The Gruffyground Press, 1973. Book. Good. Soft cover. Limited Edition. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. 8 page booklet bound within a yellow paper cover. The front of the booklet has an engraving by Reynolds Stone of a churchyard scene. Condition: Good, the yellow paper covers have general light shelfwear and light foxing to edges. The booklet is in good condition with some light foxing to the upper edges of all pages and a faint vertical watermark to the centre. This booklet was designed and printed in the typeface Janet by Humphrey Stone at the Litton Cheney Press at Litton Cheney in Dorset. Although the front cover bears the date 1973, it was actually published in 1974. The colophon states that 150 copies were to be made (60 copies on Inveresk mould-made paer, 40 copies on Hodgikinson hand-made paper, 40 copies on Hodomura hand-made paper and 10 copies on Shoji handmade paper). However, the publisher, Anthony Baker had a change of mind and decided to increase the final total of copies to 160 but decrease the number of papers used to two. The colophon was reset with the revised edition details, and the full edition printed. As it has the original colophon, this copy is therefore likely to be either the First State Standard Edition I or II, but it is difficult to tell as an unrecorded number of copies were printed of either version..
