Houghton Mifflin, 1938. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First edition (no additional printings indicated). Binding firm but with a modest spine lean, very light rubbing to the corners and spine ends, offsetting to the endpapers from newspaper clippings, dampstain to the right edge of the title page. The dustjacket is not price-clipped, some stains verso, shallow chipping at the spine ends with some loss affecting the names of the author and publisher. on the front free endpaper Sarton has signed and noted 'Weyland/March 11, 1939'.
