New York: James Miller, Publisher, 1885. Hardcover. Fair. 5 1/4 x 6 1/4. Blue cloth boards with embossed scene on the front and spine. Bumped, rubbed with some fraying to the top and base of the spine; missing a 1 by 1/2 inch piece of cloth at the top of the spine. 308 pages with illustrations, interesting ones at that. 8 stories SIMPLE SUSAN, TARLTON, THE FALSE KEY, THE ORPHANS, LAZY LAWRENCE, THE BASKET WOMAN, THE BIRTH DAY PRESENT, MADEMOISELLE PANACHE and THE BARRING OUT. Green printed end pages. Front and rear paper hinge broken, the webbing is holding. Some foxing but fairly rare. One signature protruding 1/8 inch but secure.Page edges very age toned. No date listed but 1885 is noted on a piece of paper attached to front paste down. FAIR+
