New York: Rinehart & Company, 1941. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Silver cloth with brown lettering. 281pp. Very good. Faint binding edgewear; endpapers a bit age toned. A tight and nice first edition of Gruber's first "Simon Lash" title -- a recovering attorney who makes a living as a p.i., though his main concern is his collection of rare books. This copy bears choice autograph addition: Neatly tipped to front flyleaf is a 5" X 3" slip signed large and bold by Richard Arlen, who starred in the 1946 film version titled "Accomplice." Near fine. This black-and-white "B" thriller features this reliable film and television actor (1899-1976), best known for appearing in "Wings" (1927). Gruber (1904-69) was a prolific pulp fiction writer who penned a great many detective and Western novels. An uncommon title with relevant signature add-on.
