The first US edition, published in the same year as the true first UK edition by Michael Joseph. Novel following the protagonist Edmund Carr as he escapes his job at a Fleet Street paper to go on a cruise, chasing after a beautiful widow.Written by Vita Sackville-West, prominent author in the Bloomsbury Group, known for her intimate relationship with famous author Virginia Woolf and her passion and talent for garden design, being the designer of the stunning gardens at Sissinghurst Castle. This was her last novel before her death in 1962. Complete with price clipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally smart with light bumping to head and tail of spine. Damp marks to front board. Dust wrapper smart with light shelf wear, minor chipping to head and tail of spine. Internally, firmly bound. Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
