About This Item
American artist and illustrator known for tropical and Native American scenes. Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Honaunau, Hawaii on 1972 May 3 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 11-cent "City of Refuge -- Hawaii" stamp at upper right. Fine. At lower right, in blue fineline, Rabut signs small but bold, adding "Designer." Interestingly, two of the persons responsible for creating the carved figure depicted on the stamp have also signed: JACOB LINDBERG-HANSEN (who signs at upper left in black fineline, adding his Hawaiian name: "Kimolaui haukaua Koi") and VIRGINIA C. BICKERDYKE (who signs at lower left in blue fountain pen, adding "Carver"). Accompanied by a small Autograph Note Signed from Lindberg-Hansen, 2pp, heavy stock 6½" X 3½" card, n.p., n.y. Signs with his Hawaiian name and gives names of Hawaiian master carver and demonstrator, "one of the last pure Hawaiians...." Transmittal envelope also present.
