New York, 1799. unbound. 1 page, 7.75 x 6.5 inches, "New York Mayor's Court" written at the top, certified on verso. New York, August 3, 1799. Signed by the Revolutionary War officer and aide to Benedict Arnold, as Mayor of New York, in part: "...Let the plaintiff in the above Cause, Shew [sic] Cause of Action and why the Bail should not be mitigated before me at my Chambers situated in Pine Street..." Also signed on verso by Judge Richard Riker, a lenient jurist and first proponent of rehabilitative sentencing, for whom the notorious Riker's Island is named. Small split on center fold at top; lower left corner clipped. Very good(-) condition.<br/><br/>
