A scarce complete two volume first edition set of this novel based on an unfinished work by Sir Walter Scott, with the original unclipped dust wrappers. Complete in two volumes. First edition. Scarce as a complete set. Founded on an unfinished romance by Sir Walter Scott, this novel explores the history of Malta and the struggle for control of the Mediterranean between the East and West. This set includes: Part One - St. Elmo Part Two - St. Angelo Written, or completed, by Sydney Fowler Wright, a British editor, poet, science fiction author, screenwriter, accountant and a conservative political activist. Previously held in the Royal Navy War Library. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor wear and light bumping to the extremities. The odd small mark to the boards. Original unclipped dust wrappers are worn with light chipping to the extremities and the odd small closed tear. Loss to the tail of the spine of volume two. Light sunning to the spines with the odd small mark to the panels. A 2" closed tear to the front panel of volume one and a 1" closed tear to the rear panel of volume two. Front hinge very tender to volume two. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light age toning to the extremities. Spotting to the endpapers. Royal Navy War Library ink stamp to the front endpaper of volume two. Very Good
