About This Item

Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 1974. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First printing. 167 pages. Handke's third novel, set in (and across) the United States. 8vo, olive paper over boards faded along top and bottom, red quarter, black lettering on spine, minimal shelf wear, faint foxing to edges and a few pale spots on front-matter pages, light dust soil to top edge, brown stain on ffep (extending through to verso) and part of front pastedown from laid-in newspaper clipping (the culprit clipping conveys with this book: a very hostile LRB review from 7 March 1985 of another Handke book translated by Manheim - his journal The Weight of the World). DJ is not price-clipped, has slight soil, curling at the top, foxing to DJ interior along top edge. Pages bright and unmarked.

About Berthoff Books

Berthoff Books sells books previously owned by the late Warner B. Berthoff, Professor of English and American Literature, emeritus, at Harvard University, and members of his family. Some books contain marginalia by Warner Berthoff, the late Prof. Ann E. Berthoff (U. Mass-Boston, English composition and rhetoric), or others, which we aim to describe accurately. Our inventory features English and American fiction and poetry, 20th-century literary criticism, world literature, history, and philosophy. Other categories are history and politics of Australia, Asia, South Africa and the Middle East; intelligence agencies and gnostic beliefs; Russian literature and criticism; and Russian and Soviet history.
