The illustrated edition of this popular work on the history of the English people by John Richard Green, in uniform half morocco bindings. Complete in four volumes, in uniform half morocco bindings. The illustrated edition of this popular history of the English people by John Richard Green, originally published in 1874 to tell the history 'not of English Kings and conquests, but of the English People.' Some later printings of this edition. Battles that the author felt did not play a big role in the history of the country were not included, and Green's work was often criticised by other historians for omitting certain historical events. Edited by the author's wife Alice Stopford Green, historian in her own right, and Kate Norgate. With numerous illustrations in text in black and white, portraits, as well as twenty-six full page colour plates and maps, and four in black and white. One colour folding plan to frontispiece vol. III. Collated, complete with half titles. In uniform half morocco bindings over cloth covered boards. Externally sound with minor shelf wear and some rubbing to the spine and extremities, a touch of sunning to the spine. B. J. Collett bookplate to the front pastedown of each volume. Previous ownership inscription to the front blank page, undated. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting scattered to the odd leaf, otherwise the pages are generally bright and clean throughout. The occasional leaf unopened. With numerous illustrations in text in black and white, portraits, as well as twenty-six full page colour plates and maps, and four in black and white. One colour folding plan to frontispiece vol. III. Collated, complete with half titles. Very Good
