About This Item

London : Macmillan and Co., 1902. Fine Binding. Near Fine. 9.5" by 6.5". None. A comprehensive history of England from historian John Richard Green. Illustrated edition, edited by Mrs J. R. Green and Miss Kate Norgate. With thirty-one plates (collated complete), many of which are coloured and including two folding plates. After suffering from failing health he abandoned these projects and instead concentrated his energies on the preparation of his A Short History of the English People, which appeared in 1874, and at once gave him an assured place in the first rank of historical writers. In Relfe bindings (binder's ink stamp to verso of front free-endpapers). Complete in four volumes. In armorial calf bindings. Externally very smart, with just a few patches of light rubbing. Internally, firmly bound. Neat ink inscription to recto of front free-endpaper. Pages are very bright and clean, with just the odd patch of foxing. Near Fine
