About This Item

Published by George G. Harrap & Company Ltd., 1923. 1st edition.. Hardback. Good. Illustrated by Timlin, William M.. Good condition with no wrapper. One of the classic works of fantasy and the author's solitary children's book. Only 2000 copies printed of which 600 were used for the American edition. Large format. Vellum spine with gilt titles and decoration. Grey paperboards. 48 magical colour plates. Both calligraphic text and plates are mounted on grey art paper making this a truly unusual item. Spine and corners bumped and worn, some chipping to top and tail of spine. Covers are grubby and marked, edges are rubbed. There is some surface paper damage to covers, particularly at edges. Binding re-stitched. Some damage to front endpaper. Small margin tears. Apart from some slight fingering all plates seem fine. A good copy of this scarce item.
