Stated "First Published in July 1949" on copyright page. Solid text block, sunning to spine, faint marks to front cover, lightly bumped corners. In the publisher's first state dust jacket, $3.50 retail price on front flap, faint soiling to front panel, wear to edges. Signed by the author on the front free endpaper: "To Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt / with sincere regards / Upton Sinclair." With Eleanor Roosevelt's bookplate and an estate label affixed to front pastedown. O Shepherd, Speak! is the tenth novel in Upton Sinclair's Lanny Budd series. Budd is a socialite who engages with various high ranking world leaders throughout the early 20th century. This novel, covering 1945 and 1946, includes President Roosevelt's decline in health, his passing, and his funeral. All feature Eleanor Roosevelt, which deepens the association between the two figures.
