First edition. 8vo. viii, [9]-551 pp. Portrait frontis., folding map, appendix; marginal graphite notes, water damage from front corners to rear bottom margins. Gilt and blind-stamped dark brown cloth; front hinge cracked (mended with kozo), extremities worn. Bookplate of E. F. Chappell. As is. Major John Newman Edwards, CSA, (1839-1889) was famed General Joseph O. Shelby’s adjutant during the American Civil War, an author, a journalist and the founder of the Kansas City Times. He is perhaps best known for contributing to the folk hero status of outlaw Jesse James.
